Huntsville, AL Army Football is one of the most storied and tradition-rich football programs in America! From Heisman trophy winners Doc Blanchard, Glenn Davis and Pete Dawkins, to the three National Championship teams, to the current team, Army football is comprised of true student-athletes who, at the culmination of their college football careers, will take their place in the Profession of Arms as Officers in the United States Army.
After Rich Ellerson’s tenure fell short of expectations, during which he compiled a disappointing record of 20-41, Head Coach Jeff Monken is now firmly in charge and has the team heading in the right direction! A long-time protégé of college football’s foremost triple-option expert, Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson, Monken came to Army on the heels of quickly turning around a floundering Georgia Southern program. As head coach of the Eagles, he amassed an impressive 38-16 record and three FCS playoff semifinal births. Optimism abounds on the banks of the Hudson!

Army Football is broadcast in Huntsville, solely because of the passion and interest of the hosts of the show – which is evident in every show. Bill Crawford pitched the idea to 97.7FM “The Zone” station management prior to the 2011 season, and they immediately saw the merit of broadcasting both Army Football’s games and this new pre-game show. Since the inaugural broadcast season in 2011, "Crawdad’s Countdown to Kickoff" has grown more popular each year, due in large part to the broadcast team’s expertise, passion, lively banter and good-natured ribbing; via both the local broadcast and a rapidly expanding internet audience. The show is linked to the Army Black Knights’ Facebook page and promoted by word-of-mouth. The result is a passionate local, national and international listening audience.
