CRAWDAD'S COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
1 1/2 Hours Prior to Kickoff of Each Army Football Game
Steve Kreipe ("The Human Ouija Board"), Tom "Colonel Tom" Economy, and Bill “Crawdad” Crawford are West Point Graduates who love Army Football. Together they host a weekly pre-game show to get folks fired up about Army football. The show is an eclectic mix of interesting guests, thoughtful analysis and entertaining humor that has kept people listening for the past four seasons.
Huntsville, AL One of the greatest and most tradition-rich football programs in America is Army Football. From Glenn Davis and Pete Dawkins, to the current team, Army football is led by student athletes who, at the culmination of their football careers, will begin lifelong career as an Officers in the United States Army.
Head Coach Jeff Monken enters his second year with a squad that is loaded with talent and has a favorable schedule. Hopefully, the season will result is a bowl trip and the end of the losing streak to Navy. Hopes are indeed high for the 2015 football season!
The journey begins with the season opener against UConn on Septmber 12th. Army should have the upper hand in the game and predictions are that the season will begin with a victory. The good news is that the greater Huntsville area will still be able to follow the entire Army Season on the airwaves of FM 97.7 WZZN the Zone, Huntsville’s ESPN station.
Army football has nationwide appeal. Virtually everyone knows somebody, is related to someone, or themselves served in the Army. The current Army Roster features players from most every state in the Union. Plus, the Huntsville area is a military town with over 400 academy graduates, many current military, defense contracting industries, and also many retired military.
Local West Point Graduates Bill Crawford, Tom Economy, Steve Kreipe host a pre-game radio show “Crawdad’s Countdown to Kickoff” one hour and thirty minutes prior to the kickoff of each Army game. Their show is a high energy pregame show featuring interviews of players and coaches, a preview of the week’s opponent, a look at coming games, Army football history tidbits and other special features.
Army football came to Huntsville solely due to the interest of the hosts of the show. Bill Crawford presented the idea to 97.7 and the station management agreed to take a shot at Army Football in the football mad SEC. "Crawdad’s Countdown to Kickoff" is in its fifth year and grows more popular each year. Three years ago the show was linked to the Army Black Knight Facebook page and the hosts have promoted the show through their personal network of Academy acquaintances.
